BULLETIN  9 September 2022                                        Today in History 1976

The establishment of New Zealand’s first centralised electronic database through the Wanganui Computer Centre Act focused attention on the state’s ability to gather information about its citizens.

The National Law Enforcement Data Base – the ‘Wanganui Computer’ – allowed Police, Ministry of Transport and Justice officials to share information via hundreds of terminals around the country. It recorded motor vehicle registrations, driver’s and firearms licences, traffic and criminal convictions, and personal information about large numbers of New Zealanders. The Serious Fraud Office and local authorities were later given access to this information.

President Linda opened the meeting and asked Warren to speak to the Passing of HRH Queen Elizabeth II.  Long live the King, King Charles the III.

Meeting began with a 1 minute silence.
We reflected on the 70 years of stability we have enjoyed under her rule.  She is the longest serving Queen and Charles must be the longest Royal in waiting.  We think of the family in these circumstances.  We who can relax and think of our relatives in these circumstances however not so for the Royals as they hear from many advisors on what and where to next.
As a soldier and Officer of the Royal NZ Infantry Regiment, she was my Commander in Chief.  Now I revert to her successor King Charles III.
Consider all the items in Government and the military with the Queens crown on them.  They will all change to the Kings Crown which is a different shape to the Queens crown.  Currency will also be affected.
Enjoy the pageantry of the change.
