Birthdays & Anniversaries – Anniversaries - Barbara Whitton – 18 December, Bill Holland 9th April
Guest Speaker Dr Heather Connelly
Heather was introduced by Nathan, who is the Director of Education and MBA program at Waikato University and member of numerous organizations.
Dr Connelly initially gave us an insight into the campus’s in the Waikato and the new partnership here in Tauranga along with the new student accommodation on Selwyn Street. Heather is excited about the new Vice Chancellor who has appointed a Dean of business Matt Bolger (one of Jim’s children) because of the real world experience he brings to the faculty. This has helped refresh the management school. Their vison is to be ‘Grounded in who we are, whilst being a global citizen’.
The Masters of Business School (MBA) at Waikato is currently ranked the no.1 in New Zealand
Heather also discussed the Waikato University’s place in the world, and the deep connections they have in community, with over 24,000 alumna, and their International Campus in Vietnam. They host the NZ Economic Forum every 2 years, bring together NZ Business leaders. Like any University their biggest challenge is recruitment to attract new students. To help with this, they have established a free leadership course for Year 13 students from BOP, Rotorua and Waikato colleges.
The Management School in celebrating 50 years in delivering education and the MBA School is in their 30th year. Heather went on to detail a number of the courses they offer and encouraged local businesses to work with the University to employ new graduates.
